Synopsis:

Jax, who lives on the Seneca-Cayuga Reservation in Oklahoma, has taken care of her niece Roki since since her sister vanished. While also assisting Roki in getting ready for an impending powwow, she devotes every free moment to finding her lost sister. The two set off on the road and searched the backcountry to find Roki’s mother in time for the powwow despite the possibility that Jax’s grandfather, Frank, might get custody if they failed to do so. What initially starts out as a search quickly develops into a much deeper inquiry into the intricacies and paradoxes of Indigenous women navigating a colonial society while being at the whim of a broken legal system.
